A simple life lesson applied can have a considerable effect, not only on your day but on the trajectory of your life.
For example, knowing to take a single slow breath when I'm angry is simple but powerful.
It has saved me from making gargantuan mistakes many times.
But decisions aren't always automatic.
And sometimes it helps to have something we can refer to that makes it easy to remember.
Here are some simple yet powerful life tips that I bring into my day:
Stop being yourself.
There is no 'self' - no personality, because we're all constantly shifting.
Be who you are when you're enjoying yourself in the moment. Sometimes this might mean you're quiet and observant.
Other times, it means you're assertive and extroverted.
Play with personality, don't be imprisoned by it.
Do one thing at a time.
I know you know this, but you don't do it.
And so, here I am to remind you that this is all you need to do.
You needn't worry.
There is no worry in the present.
Your effectiveness will increase twenty-fold when you relax and do one thing at a time.
You will be rewarded with energy when you resist temptation.
Let's be honest. Most people struggle because they eat, drink, smoke and consume shite.
You say it's a pleasure, but it's poison, and you know it, because you feel awful.
Your energy is everything, and you'll experience e more of it when you treat yourself well. It's that simple.
Have the advantage few have because they fall too easily into these pleasures.
Eliminate that thing you know isn't bringing you anything good.
See things for what they are.
Being overly negative and insufferably positive are two sides of the same coin.
Both are tied to illusions.
Instead of fabricating false realities, see things for what they are.
A positive, light-hearted, authentic energy will sprout from this, so you won't need to fake it.
Lucky people separate themselves from their emotions.
This doesn't mean being an automaton.
This means you aren't enveloped by emotion, which is how countless people have screwed up their lives.
You watch these emotions, and you take care of your responses.
This puts you in harmony rather than at risk.
Acting when angry can ruin your life.
When you're angry, take a slow breath so you create distance between this chaotic emotion and taking action.
This tiny gap can make all the difference.
Life isn't stressful.
I know it seems that way, but the catalyst is you. It's how you think about life that makes you feel stressed.
To feel more at peace, let stressful thoughts go, and return to what's right in front of you.
You're unhappy because you're trying to get what you want.
Forget yourself, and figure out how to make others gravitate to you and your work.
What's something remarkable you can become known for that genuinely helps people?
This is how to get what you want in the end.
Relax physically.
While Nathan is popping pills and trying to figure out his past, you understand the power of tension.
You have control over how physically uptight you are.
Drop your shoulders right now. A relaxed body instantly relaxes the mind.
And with a more relaxed mind, your world will appear brighter, more delicious.
Your most helpful ally is fear.
Ooh, scary, I know.
But fear is underestimated. It's there to protect us.
It's a highly positive and powerful energy.
I learned that fear was the flip side of passion.
What we fear indicates what we value.
When you call out what causes your fears and make steps in that direction, two things happen:
You become more courageous and confident because you face your fears.
You did something in line with your deeper sense of purpose, which is what an empowered and fulfilling life is all about.

The wild dude par excellence Hunter S. Thompson had this to say 😇:
🗨 I understand that fear is my friend, but not always. Never turn your back on fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed. My father taught me that, along with a few other things that have kept my life interesting.
Thank you, Alex, for this thought-provoking article. "Your most helpful ally is fear" reminds me of a beautiful song by John Mayer, called 'The Heart of Life', in which he sings about fear being a friend who's misunderstood.
