The wild dude par excellence Hunter S. Thompson had this to say π:
π¨ I understand that fear is my friend, but not always. Never turn your back on fear. It should always be in front of you, like a thing that might have to be killed. My father taught me that, along with a few other things that have kept my life interesting.
Thank you, Alex, for this thought-provoking article. "Your most helpful ally is fear" reminds me of a beautiful song by John Mayer, called 'The Heart of Life', in which he sings about fear being a friend who's misunderstood.
I think what Alex is saying for example, if you are in a fast car about to enter the highway while feeling passionate about accelerating or going super fast and then you are about to pass a yield sign "fear" be careful because you may crash into someone. Passion with zero fear may be reckless.
Thank you Charles. I like your explanation! In typical over reaction, I had looked at the idea that people for example, fall passionately in love to run away from fear.
I much prefer your explanation. This is why I need Alex! I constantly over react.
"You will be rewarded with energy when you resist temptation."
Every time I do something like have that night cap knowing my sleep is going to be trash. This statement resonates and is a good reminder that I should probably err on the side of just going to bed instead.

thank you!
Wonderful as always. But β fear is the flip side of passion β you said.
I cannot work out what you mean?
Thank you xxxxxxx
Passion reflects what we value highly.
What we value highly often creates fear, because we want to don't want to fail in what we value.
Passion and Fear come from the same energy.
Hope that helps.
