This one really helps. At times when you feel struggling, negative thoughts jump easily in our heads but saying they don’t carry any energy, helps in focusing on the positive ones. It’s like saying, no matter what you think, act just upon the positive ones. Your results are based on your actions but not on the thoughts that ho no where.

the thing is - our beliefs are the important life force that help us be & act. And our beliefs are determined by our thoughts. If we don't take any of our thoughts seriously, we won't have strong beliefs based on good values either. That's where I get stumped though I get what you mean Alex.

Love this. As I’m sure you’re aware, Stoics define this as assent. By continually monitoring their judgements, Stoics are to notice the early-warning signs of upsetting or unhealthy impressions and take a step back from them, withholding their “assent” or agreement, rather than being “carried away” into irrational and unhealthy passions and the vices. Pierre Hadot, academic Stoicism scholar, speaks of the “Inner Citadel” and authored a book with this title. One of my favorites. Thanks for your continued insights on living a good life.
